My Outdoor Footstool Design
Part 1 of 4
The inspiration for my outdoor footstool design was this sketch I made while taking a sculptural welding class at the Kansas City Art Institute. When I began working with the materials in class I became fascinated with the art of bending metal which led me to redesign the plan to feature a wavy leg design suggesting a peapod image. Every design I work with has some floral or nature element and the peapod idea appealed to me for that reason.
The cushion for the top was designed to be tufted and boxed for a thick chunky look in keeping with a sort of Moroccan theme. I even thought tassels hanging from each corner would complete the look for a funky touch. I still like the idea of the round sphere ball feet but as you will see in the next section, the piece took on a different look with the metal bending.
