Outdoor Footstool Construction
Part 3 of 4
Outoor Footstool Construction: The 18" angle iron strips were each clipped at a 45 degree angle to fit together much like a picture frame to form the top of the footstool. Clamps held the pieces in place so they could be welding together. After the top frame was together the strips were each welded to the underneath side of the top frame every 3 inched for support of the top cushion.

The legs were each clamped in a vise and pinched with pliers every couple of inches as the torched heated the metal making it pliable. The process was somewhat liked crimping a pie crust. (I knew there had to be some unique experience that a woman welder brings to the process that she could utilize to her advantage LOL :)
Once I practiced on these a few times it went very smoothly but getting the right amount of pressure and stopping before bending too far was trial and error.
One problem I didn't anticipate was how the bent pieces would complicate attachment to the top of the footstool. Because of the wavy design there were gaps in the surface to surface contact where the welds needed to go. I ended up using a lot of filler and then grinding it down to smooth it out.
