Outdoor Cushions Come in Many Forms

Outdoor Cushions can make an otherwise ordinary frame spectacular. They can also completely change the same frame design from something very simple to something very elaborate depending on the choice of fabric, trim, and embellishment.

Before discussing the exterior though, it is important to address what is inside. When subjected to the exterior weather elements it is critical to use the right filling. Many upholsterers use flow-through foam wrapped in dacron. I have personally used this combination in my business with very good results. The dacron wrapping is just enough to soften the hard edges of the cut foam, yet not so much to prevent the flow of water through the cushion.

For the outside covering, solution-dyed-acrylic is the standard to which all others aspire. Sunbrella is the most widely known brand but there are other very good designer brands with a wide variety of prints, and woven acrylics. There are also cushions that hold up well in Olefin, Spun-Polyester, and various other polyester or acrylic blends.
